Starting the journey…..
The Vale Eco Packs is located in Glamorgan Vale, Qld (west of Brisbane). This is a beautiful semi-rural area that is amongst a group of towns on the Brisbane River, unfortunately though, with limited recycling options. I have to admit that I was also a bit complacent about my plastic use and what happened to it after I put it in the bin. About 8 years ago I started to research further into recycling in general and plastic use in Australia and I found some pretty scary stats. The most recent numbers on plastic use are that.
  • 3.4 billion tonnes of plastic is consumed in Australia each year
  • Only 320,000 tonnes is recycled which is 9.4%
  • 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in our oceans and by 2050 it is predicted that our oceans will contain more plastic than fish……
Single use plastic is choking our earth and when you drive around you can see it is not just the oceans that are full of single use items of some sort. Single use take away food containers, cutlery, cans, plastic bottles and the list goes on.
.
How can I change this….
I have discussions regarding single use plastic with people every day and some people don’t care, some have changed their whole lifestyle and some don’t know where to start. I guess I was the same at first. There is so much to change, but where do you start?
Looking at what was going into my own landfill bin (as it is the only type we have), I thought it is the basics that are used every day that make up a huge chunk of the problem. Toothbrushes, shampoo bottles, drink bottles, coffee cups, lunch bags, dish cloths. After firstly changing over to Bamboo Toothbrushes and Stainless Steel Drink Bottles, I have used every item you see in this store and I can give a vote of confidence for every one of them.
.
How can I do more…..
I wanted to make more of a difference. To help clean our planet, to inspire everyone to swap over to plastic free items, show that this is a very easy process and that they all fit into your life just as easily as the plastic version.
I also wanted to ensure these products came from ethical companies who are as passionate about saving the earth as much as you and I. To proudly support other small local businesses (both close to home and Australia wide) but also from around the world to encourage a plastic free global collaboration.
This is why you can purchase these Gift Packs. They bring together a collection of every day items, from awesome companies that help you to be plastic free in one easy step, cuts the confusion and helps people to see that there are a wonderful range of plastic free products available.

But what about the packaging….
I only ever use earth friendly packaging to send out these amazing products.
  • Cardboard boxes either made from recycled cardboard or I reuse older boxes.
  • Wrapping in Brown Paper and tying with Jute String and using sticky tape as little as possible.
  • No Bubble Wrap Ever. I only use clean, shredded office paper to protect your products inside boxes and wrapping in old newspapers to protect smaller orders.
  • 100% Compostable Postage Bags.
Hope for the world….
I would love to see a plastic free world and as consumers, we can drive the change. Every small change makes a big difference and whether you need some new pegs for yourself or are looking for a Pack to help someone be plastic free, I’d love to help you. Together we can choose plastic free, reusable, recyclable or compostable.
